Abatement Design

Traditionally, engineers design a facility, a piece of machinery or an entire process for the occupants, operators and end users. LJB believes that the design should also consider installation and maintenance activities. LJB knows the best solution is to work with clients to eliminate hazards during the design.

“Engineering for safety” requires an understanding of the positive impact safety professionals can have if they are brought in at the beginning of the design process.

Hierarchy of control

Whenever performance of a task allows a worker to fall a distance of 4 feet or more, or any distance where the likelihood of a serious or fatal injury exists, the hazards of falling must be identified, evaluated and controlled based on the Hierarchy of Controls. Within the hierarchy are several methods of control, which are utilized in order of their effectiveness.  The primary methods of control are elimination, engineering controls and personal protective equipment.
