Qualified Person Anchorage Inspection
OSHA requires that personal fall arrest systems (PFAS) subjected to impact loading be immediately removed from service. The systems may not be put back into use for employee protection until inspected by a Competent Person and determined suitable for reuse. A thorough visual inspection of the equipment components is required in accordance with the manufacturer’s procedures. This includes an inspection of the anchorage and supporting structure, which must be performed by a Qualified Person.
Qualified person anchorage inspection

LJB Qualified Persons can perform the thorough inspections required for an anchorage to be recertified for use with a PFAS. Our inspectors look for visual signs of distress of the anchorages and supporting structural framing members. Anchorages that show no signs of damage can be recertified and put back into service. Damaged anchorages may require further investigation and remedial repair before recertification.

Following a fall, an assessment of a PFAS can also be conducted to evaluate its performance. Working side by side with witnesses, LJB Qualified Persons conduct interviews to determine the cause of the fall and assess the system’s performance in safely arresting that fall. Consideration is given to the work task and surrounding constraints. The goal of LJB PFAS reviews is to provide long-term solutions that offer clients safe working environments while maintaining productivity. Recommendations may range from system improvements to additional training.
